Executive summary

The Northern Territory Police Supplementary Benefit Scheme (NTPSBS) was established under the Northern Territory Police Supplementary Benefit Scheme Trust Deed dated 15 June 1984. It closed to new members on 1 January 1988. The scheme supplements the pension payable from the Commonwealth Superannuation Scheme (CSS) for eligible members of the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services.

Members contribute 1% of salary into their NTPSBS account. The NTPSBS is a defined benefit superannuation scheme that pays qualifying members either a lifetime-indexed pension or a commuted lump sum amount or, alternatively, a refund of contributions for members who do not qualify for a pension/lump sum.
