Pre-Election Fiscal Outlook

The Fiscal Integrity and Transparency Act 2001 requires the public release of a Pre-Election Fiscal Outlook Report PDF (1.4 MB) within 10 days of the issue of a writ for a Northern Territory general election. In accordance with this requirement, the latest report was released on 9 August 2024.

The report takes into account non-policy changes and policy decisions made or commitments entered into since the 2024-25 Budget and includes:

  • revised fiscal projections for the budget year (2024-25) and the following three financial years (2025‑26, 2026‑27 and 2027‑28)
  • the financial result for the year preceding the budget year (2023-24 unaudited preliminary outcome)
  • updated economic and other assumptions on which the revised fiscal projections are based
  • analysis of any material differences, both policy and non-policy, between the updated fiscal projections and those published in the 2024-25 Budget
  • analysis of any material differences between updated fiscal projections and expected outcomes in the Territory’s fiscal strategy statement
  • a statement of risks that could materially affect the updated projections, including any contingent liabilities
  • a set of financial statements for the general government and non financial public sectors.

Consistent with past practice, the Department of Treasury and Finance offered both major parties to provide an assessment on the cost of their election commitments, and the potential impact on the estimates included in the Pre‑Election Fiscal Outlook Report. Here is a copy of each assessment:
